1. What Kind of Writing Studies Research am I Interested in...?

I am not really sure if I am going to change my mind between now and when I actually do the research, but a few things have come to mind about what I personally would want to write about that would keep my attention and that I would be able to find enough information for.

In class we were throwing ideas around about what we would possible want to write and research about.  I said that I would want to possible research how to tell if a piece of work belongs to a specific genre and how to tell which genre it is more dedicated to.  If nobody knew that this piece of work was suppose to be, how would someone be able to confirm what type of genre it belonged to?  I think the study of genres is interesting so if something went beyond the guidelines of that genre I wonder how you would still know what to classify it as?

Another topic I think I would enjoy researching is, and the idea is similar to Michaela Cullington's "Texting and Writing", is texting with abbreviations ruining the way we write?  I have caught myself a few times writing notes to myself and leaving them at work and my boss possibly seeing them.  Not that I would ever write a professional note to someone in texting abbreviations, but I do wonder if writing is becoming more focused on abbreviations then proper formats and if the younger generation will know what it was like to never type in abbreviation and that there once was a world when we never ever texted.
